We are a school-based initiative working to support first responder kids through the unique struggles and hardships that they face. Our goal is to work with school councilors so that no child of a first responder feel as though they are alone or are struggling with no one to speak to.
Growing up in a world of late-night call-outs and hard-to-deal-with jobs has created a long-term effect on Poppy’s life and wellbeing. Learning to navigate the challenges and hardships of the job has been an integral part of her life and continues to be post-retirement.
Being raised in the world of first responders can be scary and difficult to comprehend at a young age. At the Poppy Project, we plan to build support systems within schools across Australia. We want to assist first responder children in developing healthy coping mechanisms and finding safe spaces for them to discuss the challenges that they face.
The work of a first responder is dangerous and often places police officers, fire-fighters, and paramedics in life or death situations. Our emergency service workers risk their lives everday for the safety and wellbeing of our community.
